Ashtrays occupy a strange place: everyone who smokes uses one, and almost nobody owns one they chose. It is a saucer, a cut soft-drink can, a steel bowl from the kitchen. The object that sits at the centre of the table is the one nobody thought about.

ashed.in exists to think about it. We make ashtrays as objects — sculpted, glazed, worth looking at when nothing is burning in them. A playing card in ceramic. A bulldog mid-bark. A pool of cobalt water you would not dare tap ash into, except that is exactly what it is for.
